Is it That Simple Making Money? Internet Traffic and Beyond

Making a Home in Online Traffic

Are you a traffic exchange owner and know everything already.  If so just zip down to Trial and Error in Traffic Exchange Ownership.

About 15 years ago I created a poker blog looking to earn from referrals or directing traffic.  If you go searching for free traffic, online website hits, get website traffic, etc. you will eventually discover traffic exchanges if not right off the bat.  So there was my first exposure.  Now putting a blog about poker into traffic exchanges failed to earn me any money.  Why did it fail?

Marketing in traffic exchanges is a highly targeted audience for very specific things.  The majority of people in them are probably not poker players.  A person surfing or building credits in a traffic exchange is looking to get free or low cost traffic to their business.  So if you like traffic exchanges, which in my case I did, what does do well in them?

What Does Well in a Traffic Exchange?

  1. Advertising Another Traffic Exchange– Far from rocket science, advertising a place to get more exposure to a person’s business in a way they are already familiar with and using is very targeted.  But as we’ll see later, there is a better approach then just advertising a standard affiliate page.
  2. An Internet Tool to Help Manage Traffic Exchange Business– You’ll see plenty of management software(most include a downline builder, a way of directing referral traffic to traffic exchanges and tools).  It is highly targeted because a person viewing the ad is in a traffic exchange using it and is already familiar with what they are.
  3. Affiliate Programs that Deal with Making Money in Online Business– Most in traffic exchanges are familiar with being an affiliate since a referral url/link is assigned right on signup to bring more people in.

A Future for Traffic Exchanges

Many will estimate that there are over 10,000 traffic exchanges world wide.  Well, it won’t take very long to find out there are a lot of them.  But, most of them have very little traffic.  Just as death and taxes continue, you’re sure to see another traffic launch soon.  Lot’s of people like to take their shot at it and a commercial script has made this even easier to enter the market.

As much as traffic exchange owners would like to see a car manufacturer come in and advertise their brand of car, it is a giant leap from what we see being done currently.  Instead, the target market seems to be very, very specific.  Interestingly, many of the people using te’s(traffic exchanges) own a car.  It’s just that we are not on Ford’s radar.  Our reach in sheer numbers is small compared to a television ad.  It appears that traffic exchange people are here for some very specific reasons.

There are two big ideas to success in traffic exchange marketing.  One is being a website owner and the other is building contacts(building a list).  A website owner doesn’t have to create a traffic exchange but they are so highly targeted that many do.  There is a lot less risk in creating something that is time proven.  But maybe you are one of those people that thinks that being ordinary is the greatest risk off all.  Website ownership has some amazing advantages.  If you run a successful te then you are collecting email addresses in the process of building a client base that purchases from you.  To me double punch is the words I think of.

If you don’t have the funds and/or resources for website ownership you can start with an autoresponder and a splash/capture page maker.  Now you will be tasked with the great challenge of having something of VALUE to convince someone to give you their email address.  Then you must have emails that are worth listening too.  You must keep people’s attention.  I want to stress that this is not an easy task.  Don’t underestimate it and don’t quit your job thinking you’re gonna be a traffic exchange expert.

I feel that there is such a large population that give up in our industry and I really do feel like asking is there something I could have done different for them?  Now if a person looks at the work, is properly informed about what to expect, then decide it isn’t for them… Well, then it’s like anything else in life.  They are just looking for something different.

Trial and Error in Traffic Exchange Ownership

At this moment in time, April 13th, 2017, we are about to release a new currency for the traffic exchange industry.  Promotional currency isn’t a new concept, yet, we will put our dedication and enthusiasm into a project designed to help the industry we care about.  The Legacy Team likes to work from home, likes marketing, and likes traffic exchanges.  If you’re a part of this industry as advertiser, hobbyist, or traffic exchange owner we encourage you to support this new effort in community and network.

As I reflect now, after five years, myself a surfer, I feel like I have a greater instinct about the motivations of people that use traffic exchanges.  One or more of these probably cover our community:  People use the sites to make money, be visible(active branding), collect email addresses for lead generation or share thoughts, entertainment, be part of a group, and/or because they like playing which of these icons are not like the others 🙂

Whatever your reason, we invite you to join the Legacy Team

Sincerely,

Marcus Wahl

Santa Checks His List Building Twice!

List Building Santa Check’s it Twice!

If you get yourself a large responsive list then it will feel like Santa is coming to town.  Big gifts will be bestowed upon you!

What would you give up your email address for?  If your interested in knowing something bad enough you would right.  Therefore, it is indeed what you know and your sharing it in emails that is attractive to a potential subscriber.  It’s also what you might be sharing in the future, so it benefits you to build credibility and to have regular helpful emails going out.

It’s also fair to say that you might subscribe to learn more about a person and who they know.  You might be interested in who they network with.  What better way to show your interest in a person than showing them your interested in what they have to say in emails.

So it pays to build relationships if you desire a following.  People may subscribe to start the process of building a relationship with you and your network.

In addition, I’d like to add it’s what you have to give as well.  For instance, maybe you can offer a discount on something that no one else can.  I’d whip my email address out for something I’d like a discount on, wouldn’t you?

Hopefully, this got you thinking about what you can offer others to build that list.  Putting this all together, what can you learn that is most valuable to others, who is the most influential, and what do you have to give?  The rest is just presentation right…

Cast 2 Powerful Spells for Solid Retention

It’s Not Business Wizardry, It’s Something More Human

Do you like smaller profits quickly or are you able to accept a delay for larger profits?  They are very different mind sets.  We were recently discussing the excitement needed for member retention in our industry.  Actually receiving a payout was a result that we agreed would keep people around.

How much money someone is interested in and how long they are willing to wait for it produces two mindsets.  These approaches might blend a little and certainly one could change the way they see things, but, here are the two I identified.

Spell #1 Built for Speed Mindset: This person is in an extreme hurry to earn money.  If they even look at training it is to skim over it.  They want to do something quickly and they want to get paid.  I see this mindset being happy with smaller earnings ,but, they want to see that x program is paying and working quickly.  It should be noted that the extreme of this person is looking for huge profits quickly and is most likely going to leave all industries they try.

Spell #2 Learn, Plan, and Profit Bigger Later Mindset: This person is more patient.  They are more comfortable with a set up plan for long term profits.  For sure they are not trying a desperate measure to quickly earn money.  The focus is to learn the business and take the steps necessary to building a long term bigger profit.  I tend to see this person as understanding that investment of time and/or money into their business is necessary for bigger profits.  They have less interest in prizes and smaller amounts of money.  Instead, they look to convert the traffic to eventual sales.

Total success by group 2 is achieved in our industry by:

  1. Allowing enough time for people to come to know, like, and trust you.  This includes the visual recognition of what you stand for in graphics and perhaps video.
  2. Learning how to use an email service and write emails that convert.
  3. Stand out with creative, well designed advertisements.
  4. Continued exposure in effective traffic sources.
  5. Participating in a network.
  6. Learning about the product or service that your backing and/or the creation of a website.
  7. Add in your suggestions to comments 🙂

How do we as an industry work with these two groups of people?  Well, that is the fun part and challenge.  While we are at it, let’s throw in a group of people that are looking for entertainment. It is intriguing to see how we have provided solutions so far and the future is sure to bring some cool ideas.

Get Your Hall Pass Permission for Email Marketing!

Get the Goat Head, I mean Go Ahead, before Suggesting

How many times have you seen an alien email hit your inbox?  For the most part known as spam, it’s not very effective in terms of conversion.

Contrast that with an email that somebody actually wants to read and receive.  Your open rate will sky rocket and your eventual suggestions will get the attention they need.  Check out what a famous marketer, Seth Godin, thinks permission marketing is.

Looking around in our industry surfing I think there is a lack of list building that reflects a personal nature and relationship building.  Some may argue that there is a lack of list building in general.  It begs the question why when there is a tool to easily help you email market.  You can learn to make your own capture pages as well.

You may see websites from affiliates that ask for an email address and those sites may already have made email series, but, the personal, original construction of an email series is kind of rare.  If sticking out is part of the marketing game then taking on this little bit of extra work is worth it.

People are looking for unique, accurate insight that they can’t get any where else.  Many times I believe our industry is short on ideas to attract email subscriptions and what to write about.

I’d like to brain storm with you.  Free, helpful stuff is always a good trade for an email.

Ideas to Capture an Email Address

Free Traffic Report– Direct them to the CSN training to see how much money has come in on average per signup and the total amount of signups from specific traffic sources.  In addition, you might gather the various traffic ranking lists and give your unique insight and tips.

A Free Ebook– They subscribe and then receive a useful ebook to help them.

The Giveaway– Have a contest to give away something of high value.  Obviously, you can’t get everyone a big prize, but, people will give you their email address for a chance.  If your a blogger, I went ahead and researched some plugins to help.

Some specific examples:

Where to find the Best Hot Buck Places

Tips for Health for Working from Home

Please leave some comments if you have some helpful ideas.

Remember the personal branding.  Think about putting your picture or video on the capture page.  Lastly, treat your list right by providing useful information to show you care.

List building has the advantage of potential repeat sales and it’s a low cost way of internet business when it comes down to it.  Constructing an entire website requires a bigger investment and you may not be ready for that.

Name One Big Business and I Guarantee It Funnels!

All Roads Lead to Rome

Just as Blogging, Social Media, and Emails Lead Back to…?

Big Business and Profit!

As you approach making money online and creating a business think of a funnel, a jelly fish, and foot prints in the sand.

Let’s start off with defining a sales funnel.  A sales funnel is a marketing system. It’s the “ideal” process you intend your customers to experience as they go from Prospect to Lead to Customer to Repeat Buyer.- as defined by Convertwithcontent.com

Here are a couple images on sales funnels to get our juices rolling.  The first from McKinsey and Company.  The second from Kevan Lee with blog.bufferapp.com.

An easy way to study this is to view the advertisement of the sales funnel Brandmetool.  We advertise BMT to be seen(awareness) in traffic exchanges because its highly targeted.  Brandmetool is about traffic sources.  Some people will see or be aware of BMT in social media and blogging.  The larger numbers of people begin on the left and we funnel down lower and lower to advocates.

We didn’t cover the jelly fish and sand walking yet, so you’ll have to say tuned!

Next, let’s discuss a possible, entire sales funnel for your very own online business.

If you start with affiliate work such as the Cash Surfing Network and/or Brandmetool then you’ll face a similar challenge as us.

That challenge is where to bring awareness to the top of your funnel.  The top of your funnel as an affiliate may be a BMT capture page, CSN capture page, or a blog and/or capture page about working from home, working online, increasing website traffic, generating part time income online, etc.  It makes sense that the more general your topic is the more competition you will have.

If you would like to read more about funnels, this post from buffer is quite detailed, How to Build Social Media into Your Sales Funnel.

The jelly fish and foot prints in the sand.

A jelly fish has long tentacles that food runs into and gets caught.  It’s useful to think of making our online presence like big jelly fish.  We want to be seen in many different places(tentacles) and have them all lead back to our sales funnel.  Paid advertising, blogs, social media, and emails are all examples of ways of reaching people(tentacles).  Obviously, we will not be stinging our finder, but instead, we will inject them with value so they are happy they found us.

Foot prints in the sand is another way to illustrate leaving pathways that lead back to your sales funnel.  As you walk along through the internet make sure to leave digital foot prints.  Always leave the way back to you and your sales funnel.  Now that you have these vivid pictures you won’t forget 🙂

Show me a big business and they’ll be using emails, have a social media presence, and have a blog.  To them a sales funnel is as easy as walking in the sand.
